Wright Street Design Group was established in 1986 to fill a vacuum in the residential design and construction field. For most architects, residential projects were viewed as an aside in their practice or not undertaken at all. As a result most home design fell by default into the realm of the builder or was provided by anonymous designers via plan books. For the the majority of home owners this meant living with homes that did function well for there unique needs. Addtionally, situating a home on its site to take advantage of topography, vegetation, views, and the path of the sun was seldom if at all considered. Stanley Monroe, founder, owner and principal designer of Wright Street Design Group felt the home, as fundamentally important and universal as it is, deserved the full attention and skill of an architect. Wright Street Design Group, therefore, has devoted itself to developing home solutions that are a unique and enduring response to a specific site and a specific set of needs and desires of each client.

Stan believes that as an architect he can best provide residential design solutions that offer a perfect balance of aesthetics, budget and technical expertise - from utilizing the natural features of a site for minimal disturbance and maximum passive energy gain- to incorporating the optimal structural system - to combining up to date energy conserving practices with the most efficient heating and cooling options - to specifying and detailing the most appropriate materials for longevity, durability and sustainability.

When working with a client on an addition, remodeling or new home, Stan feels he is their instrument; the translator of their goals. He does not prescribe or impose, rather he solves their particular design program. As a result, Wright Street Design Group has successfully demonstrated through its numerous projects its ability to satisfy each client's individual needs. Although, it’s his clients’ recognition he seeks and which is most satisfying, Stan’s work has been featured in Better Homes and Gardens, Detroit Home, Professional Remodeler, Custom Home, Fine Home Building, and Professional Builder magazines, and the Ann Arbor News.

In addition to providing design services, Wright Street Design Group also offers clients a design / build option. “I began building because I wanted more control over a home’s final details and quality." says Stan Monroe, and also, "because the vision a family has for their home is more purely executed when the one who puts that vision on paper is also the one who brings it to life.” As a builder with over 24 years of experience, Stan is equally adept at implementing the most technologically advanced and cost effective construction methods. This dual ability has served Wright Street's clients well. While most clients take advantage of Wright Street’s design/build alternative, those who seek design only services benefit from the firms practical knowledge of how a house is built.

As a 1977 graduate of the Master of Architecture program at the University of Michigan, Stan chose to remain in Ann Arbor to embark on his professional career. He worked for a variety of area firms engaged in health care, office and retail design, but it was residential design that truly piqued his interest. Since 1986 he has devoted his talents to designing and eventually building some of the most intelligent, well detailed and beautiful homes in the area.
