The difference between a great home and an ordinary one is in the meshing of its thousands of details. Two houses with the same features will not be the same house. Features can be simply thrown together, or carefully pieced together and interwoven into a pleasing unified whole. It is the little touches that make the home.

Solutions
We encourage our clients to be totally open and not hold any wish back because they believe it can't be done or is contradictory with another feature. There is always another way to look at the problem. In the detail of the door and side lights at the top right, the owner wanted to let in light in their foyer but also wanted privacy. For security they also needed to be able to see who was at the door when they answered it. Our solution was to etch each inside face of the insulated glass but leave a pattern of clear curvilinear forms. Where the clear forms overlap on each side one can see out; otherwise, the flowing translucent pattern makes an elegant entry door. Of course there's always the obvious. In the detail at the bottom right the problem of “I can't find a coffee table I like for my family room” was solved, well, with a coffee table—custom designed and built to suit.
